What’s selling: Ten recent sales for $60+

This blog post will showcase 10 sales over $60 from mid January- mid February 2024 from my online reselling ventures on Poshmark, Etsy, and Marketplace. Join me as I delve into the stories behind these successful sales and share insights that could help you maximize your own selling potential.

Banana Republic Soft Satin Maxi Dress in Blush Pink – Sold for $60

Everyone may not agree, but Banana Republic items consistently perform well for me. This is likely due to the fact that in addition to being conscious of the style, condition, and material, I’m also careful to check if the item is from Banana Republic Factory (there are 3 dots on the tag) and if it’s a recent style (check the interior tag for the season and year). This soft satin maxi dress was no exception, and it was a surprise (and oh so satisfying) full price sale after receiving several low-ball offers.

Vintage Pringle of Scotland Wool Sweater – Sold for $70

Investing a little time in refurbishing this sweater paid off. It was quite pilled when I picked it up and needed a little TLC. Its classic style and high-quality material from Pringle of Scotland, a renowned luxury knitwear brand, ensured a quick sale on Etsy. I was happy to see the buyer noted its “excellent vintage” condition in their review.

Carhartt Sherpa Lined Canvas Vest – Sold for $65

Carhartt’s popularity in the current market made this vest a fast seller on Poshmark. It sold within a day of posting. Despite receiving lots of interest locally, I chose to accept an offer on Poshmark to avoid issues with the barrage of messages and flaky buyers on Marketplace.

Lululemon Softstreme Long Sleeve Half Zip Dress in Espresso – Sold for $80

Although I often pass over Lululemon items which are typically overpriced at the thrift store, this dress stood out as a recent style and a trendy colour. Research revealed it was from Fall ’23, making it a valuable find that sold quickly with a good return.

Caron Callahan Bethany Square Neck Denim Twill Jumpsuit – Sold for $80

This jumpsuit, retailing for $550, had been in my closet for too long. Despite hoping for a higher price, I accepted an offer on Poshmark to clear out inventory and still made a good profit.

Mother Tomcat Straight Leg Jeans – Sold for $119

Mother jeans are sought after for their quality and fit, but are hard to come by in my area. Their reputation for maintaining value made these jeans an easy sell at a competitive price.

Vintage Aran Merino Wool Cardigan – Sold for $90

This is another one that required some TLC in the form of de-pilling, but its soft, warm merino wool and classic Aran knit design made it a desirable fall/winter wardrobe staple. I’ve been having great luck with vintage wool sweaters on Marketplace this winter, and this one was sold locally at full price.

Vintage 60s Camel Hair Cape – Sold for $135

Made from 100% camel hair, this vintage cape is a standout piece. Its timeless style and luxurious material made it an irresistible addition to any fashion enthusiast’s collection.

Vintage Shearling Rancher Coat – Sold for $175

A local sale on Marketplace, this genuine shearling coat captured the essence of 70s western rancher fashion. Its good condition and unique style make it a timeless statement piece.

Vintage 70s Penny Lane Style Wool Coat with Fur Trim – Sold for $350

This coat, embodying the  Penny Lane style of the 70s, sold within a week of listing on Etsy. This style of coat has been selling very well the last 2 winters, and this was no exception. Look for natural fibers (wool, fur, suede, leather, shearling etc.) for the best return on this iconic style.

I hope you find these insights valuable for your own reselling endeavours. Stay tuned for more tips and stories from the world of online resale! What’s selling well for you? Please share in the comments and check out my shop.

Homeschool Mamas!

I’m a SAHM/Homeschool Mama. Reselling is my way to contribute (generally “extra”/vaca money). If nothing else, it pays for books each year & “field trips” – Even a cruise to Mexico! Where are my other HS mamas? What’s your motivation for online sells?

Expensive look & a budget

When it comes to fashion, many people believe that you have to spend a lot of money to look good. The idea of an “expensive look” is often associated with designer labels and luxury items, but the truth is that you can still achieve a stylish and put-together look without breaking the bank. With a little creativity and strategic shopping, you can have an expensive-looking wardrobe on a budget.

First and foremost, it’s important to have a clear understanding of what an “expensive look” really means. It doesn’t necessarily mean wearing head-to-toe designer pieces or constantly splurging on the latest trends. Instead, it’s about looking polished and well put-together, regardless of the price tag. This means paying attention to details such as fit, fabric, and overall styling.

One way to achieve an expensive look on a budget is by investing in high-quality basics. These are items such as a well-fitting pair of jeans, a classic blazer, and a crisp white shirt. These pieces may cost a little more upfront, but they will last longer and can be styled in multiple ways to create different looks. Plus, they serve as a solid foundation for your wardrobe, making it easier to mix and match with more affordable pieces.

Another tip is to pay attention to the fit of your clothing. Ill-fitting clothes can make even the most expensive outfit look cheap. Take the time to try things on and get items tailored if needed. This can make a huge difference in how your clothes look and feel on you.

Accessorizing is also key to achieving an expensive look on a budget. A simple outfit can be instantly elevated with the right accessories. Look for statement jewelry, a trendy bag, or a stylish pair of shoes to add interest to your outfit. These pieces don’t have to break the bank, as there are many affordable options available.

When it comes to shopping for trendy items, it’s important to be strategic. Instead of splurging on every new trend, choose a few key pieces that you can mix and match with your existing wardrobe. This way, you can stay on-trend without spending a lot of money.

Additionally, consider shopping at thrift stores or consignment shops. You can often find high-end pieces at a fraction of the original cost. Be sure to thoroughly inspect items for any damages or signs of wear, and don’t be afraid to negotiate the price.

Lastly, don’t underestimate the power of a good tailor. A well-fitted garment can make all the difference in how expensive it looks. If you find a great deal on a piece that isn’t the perfect fit, consider taking it to a tailor to have it altered to your body.

In conclusion, achieving an expensive look on a budget is all about being strategic with your shopping and paying attention to details. Invest in high-quality basics, pay attention to fit, and don’t be afraid to mix and match with more affordable pieces. With a little effort and creativity, you can have an expensive-looking wardrobe without breaking the bank. Remember, it’s not about the price tag, but how you style and carry yourself. Confidence is the best accessory to any outfit.

Looking to up your sourcing game?

Looking to up your sourcing game?

Are you looking to up your sourcing game? Sourcing the right inventory is the cornerstone of success in the competitive world of online resale. From uncovering hidden gems at thrift stores to exploring non-retail avenues like estate sales and overstock auctions, the art of sourcing requires strategy, knowledge, and a keen eye for quality. Here are 4 tips to help you curate a standout inventory that captivates buyers and drives profits. Let’s dive in!

  • Find your local niche
One of the best things you can do to help with sourcing is identifying your local niche. Consider your local climate, culture, and local sources of inventory. For example, where I live on the East Coast of Canada, I tend to have good luck finding beautiful vintage coats, like this stunning vintage Penny Lane style coat recently sold on Etsy or this 70s sheepskin coat available in my Poshmark closet.

On the other hand, areas like the Pacific Northwest may offer abundant outdoor brands like Patagonia or Arc’teryx, which I almost never find in my area!  By understanding your local market, you gain a competitive advantage in sourcing items that will appeal to buyers across the country and beyond.

  • Learn Your Thrift Stores:
Take the time to familiarize yourself with the thrift stores in your area. Understand how they organize their inventory and when they restock racks. Learn how to identify their newest inventory (usually the tag colours).  Knowing these details can help you plan your sourcing trips more effectively.

Additionally, inquire about discounts, coupons, or special sale events that can further maximize your savings. Remember many stores also give discounts and coupons when you donate.

  • Explore Non-Retail Options:
Don’t limit yourself to traditional retail outlets when sourcing inventory. Explore alternative options such as local overstock auctions, estate sales, and online marketplaces. These avenues often offer unique and high-quality items that may not be readily available in retail stores. Keep an eye out for estate sales or online auctions in affluent neighbourhoods, as they can be treasure troves for designer clothing and accessories.

One of my favourite non-traditional sources is the annual charity sale of a local consignment store. It’s only once a year, but everything is $2! TWO DOLLARS! Last year at this sale, I snagged this sweet Betsy Johnson dress and this classic LBD from Ted Baker among other things.
  • Don’t Be Afraid to Spend More:
While it’s tempting to stick to a strict budget when sourcing inventory, don’t be afraid to invest in higher-priced items if you expect a quick sell-through and a good return.  When I first started out, I was hesitant to spend more than $10 on an item, but over time I’ve come to understand that sometimes, spending more upfront can lead to better returns in the long run.

Consider the potential profit margin of an item rather than focusing solely on its purchase price. For example, I recently bought this Lululemon half-zip dress for $30, and it sold within a week for $80. Of course, you need to make sure you know what’s in demand and do your research on the items to make this tip work for you.

Investing in fewer items with higher profit margins can streamline your workflow and ultimately increase your profitability.

My Why story…. Why I started selling on Poshmark

How Poshmark Helps Me Support My Daughter's Hockey Dreams

Hello, everyone! Welcome to my blog, where I share my passion for fashion and my journey as a mom. Today, I want to tell you a story about how I started selling on Poshmark and how it changed my life and my daughter's.

My daughter, Emmy, is 16 years old and she loves hockey. She started playing when she was 6 and she has been hooked ever since. She plays on a local team and she practices every week. She is very talented and dedicated, and I am so proud of her.

However, hockey is not a cheap sport. It requires a lot of equipment, such as skates, sticks, helmets, pads, gloves, and jerseys. It also involves fees for ice time, coaching, tournaments, and travel. All of this adds up to a lot of money, and I was struggling to keep up with the expenses.

I have always loved fashion and I have a closet full of clothes, shoes, and accessories that I hardly wear. I used to donate some of them to charity, but I still had a lot of items that were in good condition and could be sold.

That's when I discovered Poshmark, an online marketplace where you can buy and sell new and used clothing.

I decided to give it a try and I was amazed by how easy and fun it was. I downloaded the app, took some photos of my items, and listed them for sale. Within a few days, I made my first sale and I was hooked. I started selling more and more of my clothes, and I also bought some new ones from other sellers at great prices.

Poshmark has been a blessing for me and my daughter. I have been able to make some extra money that I use to fund her hockey lessons and gear. I have also been able to update my wardrobe and express my style. I have met some wonderful people on the app, who have become my friends and supporters. I have learned a lot about fashion, business, and marketing.

I am so grateful for Poshmark and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves fashion and wants to make some money. It is a great way to declutter your closet, find amazing deals, and connect with other fashion lovers. It is also a great way to support your passions and dreams, whatever they may be.

If you want to check out my closet, you can find me on Poshmark as @Kraftyteacherz. You can also use my code Kraftyteacherz to get $10 off your first purchase. Thank you for reading and happy poshing!
